FEMA and Eastern Kentucky University
have recently started a CAP 1.2 conformance assessment program. The
Sage ENDEC was used by the FEMA conformity pilot test to tune the
test.
GSS has presented its
product for CAP 1.2 conformance assessment as originator software
(GSSNet Alert Studio). The FEMA/EKU lab is currently focusing on CAP/EAS
equipment due to the start of the FCC's compliance clock. The ENDEC
interfaces with DM-OPEN, using its applet to fetch pending messages.
The ENDEC will support the IPAWS-OPEN 2.0 API once that specification
is published by FEMA. GSSNet has developed a CAP generation tool similar
to DM-OPEN. GSSNet supports CAP data protocol.
The ENDEC was part of an interoperable event hosted by FEMA at the
NAB show in Las Vegas, receiving and sending many alerts per day over
the four day event. GSS and Sage maintain close relationships with
the various standards groups for CAP and related systems. Sage currently
holds a seat on the board of directors of the EAS-CAP Industry Group
(ECIG), and helped to develop the recommendations for FEMA's CAP/EAS
Implementation Guide, which further describes how to convert CAP messages
into EAS. A principal of Sage is on the SBE EAS committee.
GSS and Sage are the only companies with a mature solution compliant
with the next generation public alert and warning system.
